“I am actually good, can’t help it if we’re tilted” -- Rahim C. Redcar
toward those vital dimensions
dear you,
Against Explanation is one of my favorite essays yet. in it, poet Tarfia Faizullah quotes Jeanette Winterson: “Art is not documentary. It may incidentally serve that function in its own way but its true effort is to open to us dimensions of the spirit of the self that normally lie smothered under the weight of living.” i love that.
and in ‘Poem for a Young Poet’ from the collection Kissing God Goodbye (!) June Jordan writes:
I said
what tilts my head
into the opposite of fear
or dread
is anyone
who talks to me
sometimes it is art, sometimes it is people, sometimes it is other benevolent assemblages of energy. this week may you be opened to the dimensions of the spirit of yourself that you need. may you know the grace of the tilt.
i’m rooting for us,
kendall
